If you find yourself in a situation of ongoing terror or armed violence, act immediately:
Flee – Seek shelter – Raise the alarm
Finding yourself in a situation of ongoing deadly violence, such as a terrorist attack, is something we all hope to avoid. But if the unthinkable were to happen, it's important to know what to do to increase your chances of survival. Here are some tips on how to respond in the event of such an event:
Escape
Your first priority should be to get yourself to safety. Try to leave the scene quickly and safely and avoid crowds. If possible, help others evacuate, but do not put your own life at risk.
Seek protection
If you cannot leave the area, find a place that offers shelter and where you feel safe. Be aware of your surroundings and try to remain calm. Put your mobile phone on silent and turn off vibrations to avoid giving away your location. Avoid calling people who may be in the risk area, as their mobile signal may give away their location.
Alarm
Contact the police by calling 112 as soon as it is safe to do so. Be prepared to provide the following information:
- Location of the event
- What has happened?
- Number of perpetrators
- What weapons are used?
- Description of the perpetrators
- Where did you last see them?
