Paratrooper Jump Jacket M42

American paratrooper jacket worn during the invasion of North Africa and Normandy. The M42 was designed with more pockets than the standard American uniform jacket and allowed the airborne troops to carry plenty of ammunition, food and small equipment in the field. This was perfect for the airborne troops, as they were often deployed behind enemy lines. However, nothing is perfect, which is why it underwent several upgrades during the war. The M42 was already in service during the fighting in 1943 and was considered comfortable, but not durable enough. Therefore, care was taken to reinforce the knees, elbows and crotch with very durable, water-resistant canvas for the airborne landings over Normandy.
